    L. Hollingworth School for the Talented and Gifted partnered with MediaTek to pilot the Lenovo 100e Chromebook Gen 4 powered by the MediaTek Kompanio 520 processor. The pilot demonstrated that the Chromebook’s 15-hour battery life and powerful octa-core processor allowed students to stay engaged and productive in the classroom without worrying about device charging.

    MediaTek Helps Hollingworth Meet Its Education Commitments

    L. Hollingworth School, named after psychologist and educator Leta Hollingworth (1886-1939), who studied gifted and talented children, believed that gifted students need a curriculum that is tailored to their needs and that they should be challenged academically. The school today serves all students and provides them with a challenging and supportive environment, as it believes all students are gifted, and when shown those gifts, this helps to prepare them for success in high school and beyond.

    MediaTek was honored to partner with Rachel Gerwin, College and Career Readiness Coordinator, to collaborate on the Lenovo 100e Chromebook Gen 4 pilot, which is helping Hollingworth School meet its education commitments.

    Hollingworth’s Challenges - Device Performance & Evaluation

    Challenge 1:

    Students and educators worry that Chromebooks will shut down unexpectedly, and the devices also lag when running multiple applications at the same time.

    While 1:1 technology programs introduce significant benefits, it is important to avoid adding stress to the classroom. For example, students cannot focus on learning and educators cannot focus on teaching when they are constantly worried about devices shutting down. Additionally, processing speed is critical at Hollingworth because students often use sites like YouTube as rewards, and slow speeds are frustrating.

    Challenge 2:

    Hollingworth must often purchase unseen technology products, which means IT personnel can only evaluate them after they arrive at the school. This can be difficult, as it is hard to assess a product's quality without seeing or using it first.

    Hollingworth found it beneficial to partner with MediaTek through their Chromebook evaluation program, which allowed them to test the devices firsthand and evaluate them before making any commitment to purchase the devices.
